Silk means

Hi, friend! To understand the name “Scissortail SILK, ” I’ll have to start with a little about how this blog began. First, you need to know a few things. Here in Oklahoma, where I live with my husband, Jared, and our three children, Kolton (6), Kadence (5), and Jaxton (1), our state bird is the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher. (We call them Scissortails.) Often, you’ll see these birds perched on a barbed wire fence out in the middle of nowhere… and the word silk happens to be an old slang word for barbed wire.

You know, I kind of felt like one of those birds when my husband and I first moved out here to NW Oklahoma. Like one single bird singing my song alone in the middle of nowhere. And so when I was naming my blog, I couldn’t think of a better name which painted a clearer picture. (Let’s be honest…Scissortail SILK is just prettier than Scissor-tailed Flycatcher Sitting on a Barbed Wire Fence.)

But do you know what happened? I sang my song… which turned out to be the tune inside the hearts of many women… and the blog grew. Pretty soon there were nearly 100, 000 of us sitting on a fence together chatting about life and helping one another build our nests.

In 2015, two years after I began the Scissortail SILK blog, I decided that I wanted to update the website to be more user friendly. I wanted to create a page that had more opportunities for us to connect with one another. So, I contracted a wonderful web designer to put together this space for us. But as I was thinking about all of the ways that this new site could be more user friendly, I thought, “Maybe it is time to make it easier to find this page and remember the name of it too.”

So, after praying, and thinking, and a lot more praying… I decided to make the change. When you type ScissortailSILK.com into your address bar, you will land here. If you type BeckyThompson.com into your address bar, you will land here as well. No one will be left behind or stranded on the old site (which I think is so important because I hate anyone to feel left out.) But all of the social media accounts are under the name Scissortail SILK which makes things confusing at times.
